I've got a spare older HP Media Center PC m7060n machine that I'd like to set up as a retro gaming computer. I realize this is an ancient machine by today's standards, but I don't need anything fancy, just some classic gaming. I've already got a much more modern machine for the recent stuff. Here are the specs from the HP website:
1. CPU: Pentium4 630 (P) HT 3.0 GHz, 800MHz Front side bus, Socket LGA775
2. Chipset: Intel 915GV
3. Motherboard Name: ASUS PTGD-LA (HP Motherboard Name: Goldfish3-GL8E)
4. RAM: 2gb Kingston (two 1gb sticks)
5. Drives: OCZ Vertex 120gb SSD, and an extra 500gb drive for data.
6. Case: Cooler Master Elite 430 (switched out from ugly HP case a few years ago to something more stylish)
7. PSU: Stock HiPRO, can't remember the exact specs on this, but I can check later if this is necessary info.
8. OS: Lubuntu 15.10LTS and/or Windows 7 (I have a spare license that can be installed)
Can anyone tell me what the maximum CPU upgrade for this motherboard is? Will a Core Duo work? If so, any recommendations or specific model number?
Also, I am planning on getting a discrete graphics card. This particular mobo is only PCI, and I've already checked out a few models that will work. I'm more concerned with getting the max performance from a possible CPU upgrade. A dual core would really help, if it's possible.
