Windows XP Operating System requires your computer to have at least 128 MB RAM, a 500 MHz processor, and at least 2.5 GB of available disk space on the hard disk drive (4 GB for a clean install).
This Windows XP installation will upgrade from Windows 2000, Windows Me, or Windows 98. Once an upgrade to Windows XP is performed, it is not possible to go back to the previous operating system unless the HP Recovery CD that came with the computer is used. Using this CD will erase all data on the hard disk drive.
The software applications in the previous Windows environment may not all be available after upgrading to Windows XP. This document addresses the built-in software that came with the computer. For other software, refer to the vendor or manufacturer.
To upgrade from Windows 98, purchase a Windows XP Upgrade CD from a retail outlet.
While most built-in applications of Windows XP work on these notebooks PCs, some applications may not work or be limited by the technology within the notebook.

For Users of SmartCard Security: HP SmartCard Security System (ProtectTools) software will not function with Windows XP. The HP SmartCard Security System must be removed before installing Windows XP, and it cannot be reinstalled afterwards. If there is any encrypted data, decrypt it before upgrading to Windows XP. Afterwards, it will not be possible to decrypt this data. The Windows XP built-in encryption capability may be used for SmartCard security.
